FAIRE LE VENDAGE : VILLENEUVE, SWITZERLAND
Every Autumn, my friend's family get together on a small vineyard that belongs to his Grandmother to collect the year's harvest. Despite being small, it takes over ten people the better part of a day to cut and collect all the grapes from the rows of vines. I spent one bright October day assisting with the "vendage" (harvest) and documenting this particularly Swiss experience. The grapes are cut off the vine with sheers, placed in boxes and stacked onto a small tractor before being brought down to the community winery in town for processing. The collected harvests from the area are eventually processed Villeneuve's local wine, a staple bottle of crisp white to enjoy throughout the year.
